The Whippoorwill

The Whipoorwill, located right at Bloor and Landsdowne, is a newer restaurant that serves up brunch, lunch, dinner and drinks. I came for brunch with some friends and was happy to see their menu includes your standard brunch items BUT also offer some more exciting dishes that stray away from the usual brunch stuff. The restaurant itself has a quaint and cozy feel. The space is narrow and long with seating all the way to the back. Here's what my friends and I ordered:
Korean Ribs with sunny fried eggs, scalliions and gochujang sauce
Albacore tuna, with crispy potatoes, bouled eggs, celery and pickles.
Two over easy eggs, crispy potatoes, scrapple with spicy n'udja braised beans
BLT with crispy potatoes.

We were all happy and satisfied with our meals. I ordered the over easy eggs with scrapple (mainly because I was curious about trying scrapple) and loved every bite. The potatoes that came with all of our meals were SO crispy and flavourful. None of us had any complaints with our food or service!

Overall, it was very enjoyable brunch, well done Whippoorwill...I will be back to try the dinner menu!

The P&L Burger

The P&L Burger recently opened on Queen West. I've heard good things about the burgers here, and was excited to come try it out. The menu is fairly small and offers their signature burgers, some sides and drinks. Here is what I tried on my visit:
The Italian: mozzarella, roasted hot & sweet peppers, sauteed onions, marinara sauce
The Castor: peameal bacon, cheddar, crispy onion, iceberg, bbq sauce
The P&L: cheddar, bacon-onion jam, iceberg, dill pickle mayo
Kale Caesar Salad
Onion Rings

The verdict? ...I  thought the burgers  were well cooked, and tasted good. However, I found both the P& L and The Castor  tasted exactly the same. I was looking forward to the flavor of the bacon- onion jam (on the P&L) or the crispy onions and bbq sauce (on The Castor), but sadly... none of those flavours stood out. Those burgers had similar taste profiles which was a little disappointing.

In saying this, I still enjoyed the burgers.  I also liked the kale salad, and the onion rings were perfectly crispy.
Overall, The P& L Burger is pretty descent.

Bar Isabel

I came to Bar Isabel last week, as there is literally SO much hype and talk about how one MUST try this restaurant. Well....it's true. This place is fantastic. I think it's safe to say I love Bar Isabel.
Here's what we had:
 Devilled eggs
Albacore tuna tiradito, persimmon, celery, jalapeno,
Original Tongue on Brioche
Chips, Boquerones, Piquillo, Jalepeno
Whole Sea bream ceviche
We washed all of this down with a bottle of Viura white wine (not pictured)

From start to finish, I really loved every single thing we tried. My favourite dishes of the night were the Whole fish ceviche and the Tuna tiradito! I loved the ambiance, I loved the food... I loved this restaurant! I understand why Bar Isabel is the talk of the town right now. Go try it! Make sure you call in advance for a table as they fill up quite quickly.

Jangwon

Jangwon is a Korean BBQ restaurant, located at Bloor and Christie. I came here a little while a go to satisfy my Korean food craving, and I wasn't disappointed!  They offer an 'All you can eat' menu with one choice of meat or you can order from their regular menu.
We started with shots of soju in beer. Surprisinlgy delicious and refreshing.
We opted for the Pork meat 'All you can eat' bbq. It came with 2 different cuts of pork meat for the cookin'.
Our meal also came with many complimentary sides.
Lettuce (to use as lettuce wraps for the pork meat)
Tofu
Bean sprouts
Chopped greens with Korean spice
Dips and sauce
Kimchi
Turnips
I enjoyed my Korean BBQ experience at Jangwon. Although the service was a little slow, and there is nothing particular intriguing to the interior of this restaurant, the food was very descent and the flavours were great. If you are the area, check this place out!

The Burger's Priest

I checked out The Burger's Priest a while a go at it's new Queen West location. I have heard so much hype about the burger's here so this visit was long overdue. My friend and I tried 2 burgers and both were pretty delish!
Red Sea Burger. Cheeseburger with chilli on top
Cheeseburger. Good ol' classic burger!

The burgers were quite tasty. I found the restaurant itself to be a bit stuffy and lacking in seating. I came at lunch time so the place was packed and it was a bit of a wait for our food. But overall, it was worth the wait. They do their burger's right.

Patria

Patria is a swanky restaurant that serves up traditional Spanish cuisine. My friend and I were in the mood for tapas, and we certainly came to the right place! Patria is located right downtown at King and Spadina. From start to finish everything about this place was amazing. The ambiance was lovely with low lighting and an open kitchen view. Our server was very attentive and friendly. And the food was so flavourful. Here's what we had:
Blood Orange Cocktail and White Wine Sangria
Bocadillo de Higado graso de pato (foie gras on bun with pedro ximenez reduction and quince)
Charcuterie (Assortment of prosciutto, salami, capicola)
Croquetas de jamon (traditional ham croquettes)
Datiles con tocino iberico (Dates and iberico bacon + manchego cheese and guindillas)
Glass of white wine
Fideos con almejas y chorizo (Fideo pasta and clams + chorizo and aioli)
Churros con dulce de leche (Spanish donuts with cinnamon + and dulce de leche)
Mousse de dulce de leche chocolatey crema fresca (Dulce de leche mousse + creme fresh + chocolate)

This restaurant was close to perfection for me. Every dish was packed with so much flavour. My favourites of the night were the stuffed dates and foie gras bites. I enjoy tapas style meals because it's perfect for ordering a variety of small plates and sharing. If you haven't been to Patria, I highly recommend giving it a try.

Magnum Pleasure Store

Magnum Ice-cream has many 'pleasure stores' in North America. One just opened in Yorkville for a trial run. Until the end of August, people can customize their own magnum ice-cream bar. With a variety of toppings for the choosin' you can really make your magnum experience enjoyable. I checked it out last week with my sister, heres how we did our bars:
I opted for vanilla ice-cream center, milk chocolate coating, dark chocolate drizzle, pop rocks, nerds, coconut and rice crispies.
My sister had vanilla ice-cream center, white chocolate coating, milk chocolate drizzle, dried strawberries, pop rocks, and popcorn.

If you love ice-cream, check out this Magnum Pleasure Store before it's gone!
