Yummy Stuff

Yummy Stuff is a sweets shop on Queen west (near Queen and Jameson) They have everything from speciality cakes, to cookies, to whatever your sweet tooth desires. My friend and I were on a mission to satisfy our sweet tooth craving and were lucky we walked in to Yummy Stuff.
We ordered an assortment of sweet delights. It came in a cute package.
Mini Rasberry Cupcake with vanilla frosting.
Carrot Cake cupcake with cream cheese frosting.
Chocolate peanut butter cups. These were amazing. The chocolate was so velvety and smooth. It melted in your mouth. The peanut butter on the inside put it over the edge.
Maple Pecan Bar. This too was packed with sweet goodness. I loved every bite. The crust on the bottom was buttery and rich, and the toppings were decadent.

All I can say is ... Yummy Stuff makes great desserts. Go check it out!

King Slice Pizza

I've heard good things about King Slice Pizza...so I decided to order some for delivery the other night. I got pepperoni, black olives and sun dried tomatoes.
It was pretty reasonably priced, and for delivery, it came pretty quickly. I enjoyed the pizza. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was tasty. I found the sun dried tomatoes to be a twee bit overwhelming, so  I would order different toppings next time.
Overall, it was a good pie.

Bacchus Roti

I am SO happy I stumbled upon Bacchus Roti Shop last week. This restaurant, which serves up Guyanese and Barbadian cuisine, is delicious. The menu isn't super extensive; most items are displayed on a large chalk board hanging on the wall. They have various rotis (meat and vegetarian) that are massive and pretty cheap. My meal here was memorable:
Mango Drink. This was sweet and refreshing.
I ordered the Goat Roti with spinach, squash and chickpeas.
My first bite of the roti had me hooked. The flavours worked so well together. The goat was tender and full of flavour, the squash added a hint of sweetness and the spinach just melded everything together. This is probably my favourite roti I have tried so far in Toronto. I can't wait to come back to Bacchus and try more from their menu. If you are in the Parkdale area, I highly recommend stopping by Bacchus roti...I am sure you will leave stuffed and satisfied!

Homemade Cauliflower Mash

I am so happy to share this AMAZING cauliflower mash recipe with you! I tried this recipe a while a go and I became obsessed with it. It is seriously so delicious yet healthy.  To be honest, I am not a big fan of cauliflower, but this recipe totally converted me.  It tastes like mashed potatoes…and who doesn’t like mashed potatoes? :)
Here it is, my friends:

Ingredients:
2 heads of Cauliflower
2 heads of Garlic (or more if you like it garlicky)
Olive oil (enough to coat all the cauliflower)
Salt
1 Quarter cup of butter
Half Cup of Cream (half and half)
Parmesean Cheese

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Toss the cauliflower with olive oil, garlic and salt.
I used a lot of garlic
Spread the cauliflower on a baking tray. Put in the oven and bake until golden brown and fork tender.
Once baked, take the cauliflower out, transfer to pot and add in cream, butter and parmesan cheese. You can use either a hand mixer or a mashed potato masher to mash it all together.
Once nicely mashed, put the mash in a baking dish. Generously sprinkle chopped parsley and parmesan  over the top. Add this to the oven for another 15-20 mins until the parmesan cheese is golden brown.
Finished product!
I have no doubt you will enjoy this recipe! Give it a try!

Hey!

Hey! just opened recently in the west end. This new Roncesvalles eatery offers brunch, lunch, dinner, sweets and fresh juice from their juice bar. The interior is nicely decorated with a warm, homey feeling. I loved the atmosphere; the music playing was great, the service was friendly and everyone seemed relaxed and happy to be there.
Fresh orange and grapefruit juice. This was really refreshing and tangy. I enjoyed it.
Blueberry Pancakes with Syrup. Our server told us that they use yeast in their pancakes, and that it gives them a unique, but really nice flavour. I didn't agree when I tried the pancakes. It tasted like pure yeast to me. Pretty unappetizing in my opinion.
Savoury Tortiere, with grainy mustard and caramelized onion. This was really tasty! It was pretty much a minced meat type centre, smothered in caramelized onions all wrapped in a pastry shell. I really enjoyed it. The caramelized onions added a perfect sweetness. The pastry was light, buttery and delicious.
Along side came a simple salad with shaved beats, cucumber and lettuce in a vinaigrette.
Overall, this restaurant had some hits and some misses. I would come back to try other menu items, and different juices. Their sweet selection also looked tempting as well!

Platters of Goodness

Lately some of my friends and I have been in the whole 'lets just chill in with wine and food' mood. So meat and cheese platters is what we have been putting together. They are quick, easy, not overly expensive and most importantly, really delicious. They also give you lots of variety of flavours. I thought I would share some of the most recent platters we've enjoyed:
Stuffed olives, dried fruits (figs and strawberries), walnuts, crackers, smoked spiced chicken, pickled vegetables.
Red and green grapes, salami, mortadella, spicy marinaded olives, mozzarella cheese and crackers.

mmm mmm good.

Kyoto House Restaurant

I recently dined at Kyoto House Japanese Restaurant. They have a pretty reasonably priced 'All You Can Eat' lunch special. The restaurant was very busy, almost every table was full. Here's what we had:
Green Salad. This was your standard sushi restaurant salad. Nothing special.
Deep fried goodness. Spring rolls, dumplings and deep fried avocado.
Rolls, rolls and more rolls. We had an assortment of rolls (clearly). Spicy crab, Spicy Salmon, Spicy White Tuna, Unagi and avocado, Spicy Crispy and Salmon and avocado.
Overall, it was O.K sushi. Nothing particularly great. But prices were good for the amount you can get.
