Homemade Stuffed Artichokes

My fabulous mother and I made some delicious stuffed artichokes the other day. I would love to share with you the tasty recipe she taught me. It's DELISH and healthy!
Ingredients:

3 large artichokes (the ones I used were very large)
Bread crumbs (Cup and a half)
2 diced artichoke stems (take the outer skin off…the tough part)
3 pieces of slice prosciutto diced
2 tbsp. parmesan cheese
3 cloves of minced garlic
parsley (a handful)
Drizzle of Olive oil

Start by cutting  the stem, and tops of the artichoke off. Take scissors and cut off the pointy tips of the leafs

Stuffing - Put the breadcrumbs, artichoke stems, prosciutto, and garlic  in a bowl.
Don't forget the parmesan cheese! Mix all these ingredients together.

Using your good ol fingers, spread the artichoke leaves slightly apart so there is room for the stuffing. Pour stuffing into every crevis of the artichoke.
Put the stuffed artichokes in a big pot. Add water to the pot; the water should cover the bottom half of the artichokes. Drizzle with olive oil, and sprinkle parsley on the artichokes.
Let this cook on medium/high for about an hour.
You will know they are finished when you can easily pull a leaf off, and they are very tender. Finished product.....yummy!

Enjoy!

I heart Sushi

For those that know me well, know that I frequently order in random sushi feasts! While being cozy in my apartment, the convenience of sushi delivery never fails to put a smile on my face. Side note: obviously sushi is never as good when delivered as is it if you eat at the restaurant, but sometimes laziness prevails.
I just moved to a new hood and have been trying out sushi delivery places in my area. I love Sushi is my latest try. I ordered in some tasty sushi and it hit the spot. Heres what I got:

Spicy Tuna Roll - my favourite sushi roll.
 Spicy Crunchy Avocado
Green Dragon Roll - Shrimp Tempura on the inside, topped with avocado
My meal came with a free California Roll ...score! (I normally never order california rolls, but I wouldn't turn down free food)
 Gyoza. Vegetable filled dumplings.
All of this food also came with a miso soup and green salad. I spent around 25 bucks for everything.
I enjoyed my delivered sushi from I love Sushi. The tuna roll had a good amount of tuna in it, the spicy avocado roll was actually spicy and the dumplings were crispy and full of flavour. The prices were very reasonable. I would get sushi delivered from this place again.

The Big Slice

The Big Slice is located at Yonge and College and holds true to it's name by serving up very large slices of pizza. I tried the Canadian, and pineapple and bacon.
All I really have to say about the pizza here is .....MEH... nothing special. I found the pizza to be a bit greasy. Although they look like tasty slices in the picture, for me they were lacking in flavour. I left feeling very unsatisfied. Although the prices are cheap for the size of slice you get...I don't think I would come back here any time soon.

Tortilla Flats

Tortilla Flats is a tex-mex restaurant on Queen West. It is a little grungy and has a pretty big outdoor patio in the back. I came here with my friend the other night, specifically for one of their tasty 3oz cocktails. We started with Killer Kool-Aid Cocktails. Warning: they go straight to your head!
It was half price fajita night when we were here, so we obviously ordered their sizzling fajitas.
It came with chicken, sautéed with onions and peppers. Beans, rice, cheese and salsa came along side.
The food was O.K. Nothing to rave home about. On a positive note, the portion size was large and the meal was very filling. Overall, I would come back for the patio and boozy drinks...not so much for the food.

Mother India

Mother India, located in Parkdale, has excellent Roti. It's really as simple as that.
Butter Chicken roll. This was tasty. The sauce that came along side was very sweet and an interesting pair to the roll.
Spinach and chickpea roti. I really enjoyed this roti. The spinach inside was so flavourful and had the perfect amount of heat. It had a nice kick with each bite.
mmmmmmmm.....

This restaurant has a variety of different roti to chose from. They also have soups, appetizers and  savoury crepes to accompany your meal. The flavours are incredible. Go try Mother India!!

Brazilian Star

I tried Brazilian food for the first time...ever! The verdict? .....I really like Brazilian food! Brazilian Star at Dundas and Ossington serves up some pretty authentic Brazilian eats. I came the here last week and was pleasantly surprised by the friendly service, and the flavourful food.
We tried a Brazilian Pop which tasted similar to cream soda.
Caipirinha. This is a traditional Brazilian drink with lime, sugar and cachaca (a Brazilian liquor). It is a little sweet, but very delicious.
Brazil is known for its delicious meats. This is the steak with fried egg, yucca (which taste similar to potato) collard greens and rice. The flavour in the meat was excellent. The fried egg added a nice richness to the meal.
 Beef Stew.
The beef stew stirred up a little with the collard greens and yucca. This was really delicious. I loved every bite. The broth was incredibly flavourful and the meat was moist.
Large portion of the Brazilian steak. This was wonderful and juicy.
Side of Collard Greens (this was light and balanced out the heaviness of the meat and rice)
Side of Rice (to mix with the stew and/or beans)
Side of beans (these were delicious)
 Side of potato salad

I enjoyed my experience at Brazilian Star. I would definitely come back and dine here again. Now that I have finally experienced Brazilian food, I am excited to try more dishes. You should definitely check out Brazilian Star.
